The big city

Life in Kaer Tarislar has been the same for a millenium, but now a force of terrible evil seeks entrance, and the residents are trapped within. Who within the kaer could face the evil and bring Tarislar back into the light of dawn...?

I would say that sounds about right.

So how long should we give them to research this information for us.
I'm sure we all need to some training and some new equipment.

Th'foor and Th'ail will walk around the library after talking with the group about which way they are going to head on this.

Pingo gives a huge smile as she rocks back and forth on her heels.

"I would be happy to deliver a package to Travar. I swear on Jaspree that I will deliver it." So saying she bundles her coin and begins transplanting her cuttings to beds around the shop.

Finally she redons her much lighter fernweave and skips out, arrangements to pick up the package when she gets the work done.

Ping spends her time at the weaponsmith, with the questers of Jaspree and training with beastmasters. Cornering the elementalist who was working on her armor she convinces him with some coin and some carvings to teach her elemental tongues. (Human Versatility)

She leaves a note at the house so the others can find her. Pingo also tries to fill in any gaps in her knowledge on flora and fauna of the Kaers area. Specifically she focuses on dangers, and plants that may be helpful in the area that she should keep her eyes open for. (rare or special properties)

Pingo fills in her knowledge of the towns on the way to the Kaer and then on to Travar. Her head filled to capacity each day she attempts to learn more to be a better guide, using the last of her coin to buy drinks for troubadours to learn any tales of the surrounding area and people she is going to. (Specifically Despair Horrors, The Kaer Talisar, local legends, and getting the tale of her party spread.)

(Items at the end of this: Blood pebble- handcrafted, contacts in Bartertown and Travar, a much deeper knowledge of rumors and fact of the area around Talisar, a bag of raw local semi-precious stones/crystal to carve, and learn Elemental tongues.)

Addressing the elf in front of you, "We need some research done" says Dalamar bluntly.

The elf smirks, "Well you have come to the right place. We have many individuals in here who can help you. How many researchers do you wish to employ? Their rates vary based on experience, but they are very good at their jobs."

"We will require 4 of your best researchers for a week. The subject of the research we wish to discuss directly with them," answers Dalamar.

The elf blows a low whistle. "That is going to cost a pretty penny. I guess whatever you are trying to find is worth it. Very well how will you be paying for this? We require half now and the other half before you are given the research."

OOC The total cost will be 1050sp. 525sp is needed now. Perhaps it is time to see the moneylender's guild?

Lhuc's heart sags as he hears the cost of the research. Doubt begins to plague him as he considers the worth of reading books when their families are in danger.

"We'd best look for a manner to convert some of our... posssessions to coin," he says quietly, "I will go and search for a moneylender. Anyone wishing to join me are most welcome."

With that the Elf turns and stalks from the Library in search of a reputable moneylender...

OOC: Making sure that he has the coins in hand, of course.

The group excuses themselves from the library with a promise of 'Be right back'.

You head off to find a respectable moneylender. Making a few discrete inquiries you hear the name of Tylarius Ballsast. A dwarf with a good reputation and a no nonsense personality.

Following the twisting streets of Bartertown, and getting lost more than once, you finally arrive at Tylarius' place of business. At the front door you are met by a well armed elf and a troll. They ask your business and ask to take your weapons while you meet with the moneylender.

Once past the door guards you are escorted my another guard to meet with the moneylender. You are brought into a finely decorated room, complete with a large oak desk and fine artwork on the walls.

Tylarius enters the room, wearing guild robes, "What can I do for you?"

The kaer crew bring out the small chest holding the wealth of the Talisar.

OOC how do you want to exchange the money? how much? Remember you need money for research, training, equipment, and there will more then likely be a fee for the rescue team.

Lhuc withdraws a single orichalcum coin, holding it with great reverence towards the moneylender, though not yet letting him hold it, "This coin predates the scourge if my sources are correct. It is ancient, and pure. I hate to think of parting with it, but times are lean, and I have need of the money."

He lays the glittering coin on his palm and holds it closer to the Dwarf for inspection, "I need to know if you are seriously interested, and if so, at what price. I need it sold by this afternoon, and if you are not capable of turning it over, I need to revisit others that I've made inquiries with this morning."

The dwarf's eyes open in surprise. "My, well, *cough*. I am sure we can reach an appropriate and fair exchange for your coin. Plus any others if you can find them. I assure you you will not deal with a more fair money changer then myself." The dwarf reaches into a small chest behind him and pulls out a small scale and a eye sight.

Once his equipment is set up he continues, "If I may, kind elf, I would like to inspect the coin to verify its authenticity. When dealing with a coin of such great value you can never be too sure."

Lhuc smiles and drops the coin into the Dwarf's outstretched palm, "Of course, good sir. Rest assured, you will be satisfied with the quality of this... and any other rarities that I may come across."

He waits patiently while the moneylender examines a part of his Kaer's only treasure.

I'm not sure this is such a great idea, I mean we were entrusted with the coin to ensure it's safety in light of our kaer's probable demise. The value of this coin was paid with the blood of our brothers and many others. To simply "sell" seems more a crime than a blessing to our cause.
Lead us not to temptation, there is enough here already.

The dwarf looks at the coin in great detail, weighs it, Dalamar is sure the dwarf cast 'dispell magic' on it. "You can never be to careful", the dwarf says.

"Well fine namegivers, you have quite a treasure in this coin. I am willing to give you 9500 silver for the coin. I doubt you would get a better offer elsewhere. If you would like I can give you the silver now?"

Scratching his beard, "did you say you had other rarities you would like me to look at?"

Lhuc leans towards Rem and whispers quietly, "You are right, Rem, however we were entrusted this treasure to secure the safety of our brethren. These are just coins... pieces of metal stamped with kings long dead. Our family is alive in the mountains, and if selling the coins is what we need to do to ensure that they survive, then that is what we must do."

He straightens and turns back to the moneylender, "Ninety five hundred seems... adequate, however my companion here has reminded me that the coin is part of a matched set, and selling it alone may not be in our best interest." He takes the small, wooden chest out and reverently opens the lid, revealing the nine other brothers to the coin in the Dwarf's possession, "Mayhaps you would reconsider your offer if you were bidding upon the entire set?"

Th'foor and thail. listen to the conversation with Lhuc and Rem.

You know, when i was a boy, i remember tails that or first bard told us of all the wars that where fought in the day, over Orcalcum.

If I remember correctly it wasn't just one war. it was many wars over.

Th'foor picks up one of the coins and flips it in his hands.
Many of the battles just over One coin. I know we have been in a kear for over a thousands years, But whole kingdoms ran on these coins.
and here we sit in front of you and you offer us 930 silver per coin.
If this is the type dishonest business you run, then we can take or 10 Rich Orcalcium coins and head to the kingdom of thrall and deal with the king himself and tell him of your Practices.

Tylarius chuckles at Th'ail's outburst. "No disrespect my fair Ts'rang. The king himself, by royal proclamation no less, has stated that a 5% fee is acceptable for money exchange. That is why I quoted you 9500 sp, perhaps you misheard as you said 9300."

Looking at the contents of the chest the dwarf whistles. "That is quite a treasure you have there. I can exchange these coins for you, 96000 sp for the lot. If you believe the coin has some other property other then currency you may inquire elsewhere. Although I do not believe they have magic or other properties."

"The choice is yours"

OOC: Lhuc has no intentions of simply handing the coins ovefr to the first moneylender they meet. He was simply gaining information as to their worth. Lhuc, of course, has no idea what they're worth, or even what the currency system is (beyond silver, of course).

My idea, initially, was for the coins to be bartered with the king for his help for the kaer, but cash works for that too, usually.

It's Tanoc's game. His universe. I play by his rules.

Oh, and Tanoc, nice job so far. Maybe you can delete these last two posts after we're done, just to keep things tidy?

OOC: Okay, I've done a bit of 'housekeeping' until Talon can reply to your PM about admin priveledges. Can't say what's up with that, but try hitting him up again.

I modified all of the values to show the updated currencies that we've been discussing. I have no idea how we're going to carry 9600 silvers around (be pretty darned heavy, I'd think).

Lhuc turns to the rest of the group and speaks out of the moneylender's earshot, "I say we sell one coin and keep the rest for our audience with the king, if we even get one. We need money. Our new friends need to be compensated for their help, and we need to reoutfit and resupply. This sounds like a lot of money, I think we should do it!

OOC: Lhuc will go along with the majority's decision. Tanoc, please feel free to drag him along as an NPC until I get back next Monday.

Aloha!
