Another 20 Question riddle

Post by Talon » Thu June 02 05 ; 6 38 am

This one is pretty hard. A tip I have to offer is to take nothing for granted as you saw in the last one...

A man sleeping on a train wakes up, stands, and makes his way to the front of the car and throws himself off the train which kills him instantly. What caused this man to do this?

5 - Possible Solution:

The man was either blind, or going blind, and had recieved surgery to correct his vision. He was informed that he would sedated during the surgery and afterwards they placed him on a train. When he woke up, he was told, he should be able to see.

However, just as the man was waking up, the train went through a dark tunnel (as trains sometimes do). He could feel and hear that he was on a train, but he couldn't see anything because it was so dark, so he assumed that the surgery was a failure and that he was still blind. Depressed, he felt his way to the front of the train and threw himself off.

There may be other details involved that I don't see, but that explanation at least seems to fit, and uses all the clues (man asleep, on a train, threw himself off). I couldn't find a good reason why he would accidentally throw himself off the train, so I concluded that he must have suicided.

Whoops. I wonder why my last post didn't take.

Yes thats basically the right answer. The only exception is that the man wasn't sedated when he got on the train. He could see when he got on the train, fell asleep, woke up in the tunnel and thought he lost his vision again.

Aah, I was close. ^_^ I thought it was pretty irresponsible to leave a sedated guy on a train. lol
