Johnny climbs into the well's cold, dark water. Holding his breath, he plunges under the surface and down a long stone tunnel that turns and winds unpredictably. After a minute or two he finds himself forced to take in a mouthful of water, though the act is so contrary to instinct that he nearly passes out before he gasps in a breath. Amazingly, Johnny does indeed find himself able to breathe the water, and soon he feels right at home. This must be how the nixies brought him to their community in the first place.

After another minute of swimming, Johnny emerges from a cave-like entrance on the lake floor not far from the shore. There is perhaps twenty feet of clear water above him, and a few kicks take him to the surface.

Outside it is nearly nightfall already - he has been away almost an entire day.

[OOC: By the way, for details on the pipes, have a gander at the item topic I just made.]

Johnny is loath to abandon the experience of breathing underwater. What treasures and fabulous creatures could he find at the lake's bottom? Still, his breathing ability doesn't make him a more graceful swimmer and the warning about his limited time frame inspires him to swim stronger up and out into the night air.

Dripping wet and starting to shiver, Johnny wonders if the others have given up on him or not. Without flint and steel, the notion of a fire seems remote. Sighing, the bardbarian peers up inot the sky, trying to ascertain what kind of light he has to travel by. If the moon is full enough, perhaps he could make his way back...

Absently Johnny begins to test out the flute. Perhaps if he's loud enough he could summon his friends close enough...or perhaps something less friendly...but it's worth the experiment all the same.

OOC- How's the visibility? If it's good, he's heading back to the elves, gifts in hand. Otherwise he'll wait by the shore.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends!

The gods must be smiling on Johnny for his good deeds - the sky is still clear and the way is lit up well enough for him to find his way. Walking is the right choice, as the exercise helps keeps hypothermia away.

The panpies produce clear, beautiful notes that float out into the cool night air, helping Johnny to forget how freezing cold his wet clothes make him feel. As he plays, he bonds with the instrument until the pipes are but an extention of his hands, and the music is like a second voice.

[OOC: The use of the pipes is instinctive to anyone with Perform (wind instruments) ranks, such as Johnny. In this respect its basicly self-identifying, and Johnny quickly understands that he can coax a twig spirit to life by amusing it with a song.]

With a modicum of restraint, the bard-barian holds back from seeing exactly what wonders the flute can create. He'd much rather see the look of delight on Uvuriel's face anyways.

Johnny laughs silently to himself as he walks, 'Johnny Erath', huh? Well, it might not be a name but at least he had a title now, undeserved as it may be. How like a sliver of metal betwixt two magnets does he feel, one the one end are Sipul, his supposed wives, and the wonder of the nixies...On the other are his two elven companions, the closest people to friends he could recall ever having since he left his tribe in exile.

Johnny does his best to retrace his steps to where he last saw the elves. It is fully into night when he finally spots the dim glow of a campfire a hundred yards away.
