Wylan’s fight

Blackstone Prison is one of the many dirty little secrets of
the Empire. It is the deepest, darkest, dankest, hellhole imaginable and where the Empire houses a collection of hardened criminals, 'political' prisoners, and those unlucky few who simply needed to disappear. Blackstone Prison was one of those places that everyone has heard about but was unwilling to talk about in polite company. Poor living conditions, horrible nutrition, forced labor, and a brutal sadistic humanoid guard force ensured that no one ever escaped from Blackstone.

You are a prisoner at Blackstone. It may have been days, weeks, months, or even years since you were incarcerated, but the indominatable force of Blackstone is beginning to crush any hope you have that you will ever leave Blackstone alive.

Wylan’s fight

Post by chameleon » Thu December 08 05 ; 2 13 pm

Two of the guardsmen step out into the middle of the room. Both wear light chain shirts, but only one of them carries a small buckler. The guard carrying the buckler has a hand bow hanging at his waist. He holds a long sword comfortably in his other hand. The guard who lacks a shield carries a long sword and a short sword. The two guards move ten feet apart and begin to circle toward Wylan. Wylan stands about twenty feet from where the two guardsmen are.

Wylan makes a swift calculation in his head: the one with the crossbow would be a frightening threat, but might be more apt to hesitate if he risked hitting his partner. If possible, he might put one out of commission...

Acting swiftly, Wylan steps towards the blade wielder. Instead of slashing out with the chain at his torso, he dips the long chain down in an attempt to sweep him off his feet.

OOC- Moving 10 feet towards the bladesman, attempting a trip: +15 to hit on a "touch attack" (no armor bonus, hehe); no attack of opportunity allowed given my feat. With a success, soldier 1 will be "prone."

Wylan moves swiftly toward the guardsman bearing two swords. Dipping the long chain down low, Wylan attempts to sweep the man off of his feet. Obviously, the guardsmen had been to the arenas and seen a gladiator use a chain before as he was anticipating just such a gambit. He focuses all his effort in using his short sword to intercept the chain.

The chain makes contact with the sword in a horrible clanging of metal. Fortunately, the guardsman had never fought a chain wielder before and misjudged how much of the chain would swing beyond the sword. The chain still manages to wrap around the guardsman’s leg and with a quick tug Wylan pulls the swordsman to the ground.

Behind Wylan, the other guardsman in one fluid motion swings the hand bow up from where it rested on his hip and pulls the trigger. Wylan hears the click of the bow, but his helm prevents him from hearing the flight of the arrow as it flies toward him. The next thing Wylan feels it the arrow biting into the back of the knee. Either the guardsman was an excellent shot or a very lucky man as the found the crease in the knee joint of the full plate armor.

Pain shot up and down Wylan’s leg, but it wasn’t enough to bring the big man down. There was something else though. Something was on the arrowhead or in the arrow. Wylan began to feel his heart beat slower. His limbs began to grow heavy and limp. What could they have put on the weapon?

OODM: I’ll need a save roll vs. Poison. Please just include it in your next post. Thanks, Cham.

The pain is excruciating! The fighter grits his teeth and tries not to think of what is happening to his ticker. Wylan fights the urge to rush the shooter. For all he knows, the blade wielder may have the same poison on his swords. Instead he focuses on taking out his grounded opponent while hoping to dodge further attacks. The chain slams down towards the tripped warrior as Wylan wills his adrenaline flow to continue.

OOC- Fortitude save was 13 +9 = 22. Using combat expertise to the fullest (+4 AC,. -4 attack)which cancels out the bonuses Wylan gets for striking a prone figure (+4) = +9 to hit unless the poison is effecting me somehow. If he finishes the enemy, he'll use his move to approach the shooter; otherwise he'll circle around the soldier, putting the fallen man between the crossbowman and himself.

Watching Wylan bring the man down was like watching a bear grab onto a buck with one paw. Tegan had never wanted to become a knight. He knew the special order of Paladins within the church, known as the Order of Aster. They had been some of the most promising fighters and clerics he had ever seen. However, they would often use the last of their strength to heal the wounded and innocent before their own lives. The paladin's lifestyle had never been one for the spellcaster, for which he was greatful.

He yelped loudly as the arrow dug into Wylan; the clerical instincts to rush towards the wounded man certainly called out strongly. Blinking, he found himself almost leaping onto Kith's shoulder out of shock. Shuddering the notion off, Tegan bit his bottom lip and wondered if he would be lucky and only fight off man. After all, he was easily half the size of Wylan in muscularity. Maybe they made a mistake and Isadora would also be fighting one man with him. One thing was for sure, he was certain that man fighting against man was not something he enjoyed to watch.

Wylan doesn’t give the guardsman a chance to rest as he brings the chain down in an attack. The guardsman makes little effort to block or dodge the attempt and the chain smashes into his shoulder with a sickening crunch of bones. A cry of utter anguish and pain comes from the guardsman as he rises to his feet from the prone position. Wylan makes his move around the just risen guardsman in time to see the other guardsman reload the hand bow and raise it in preparation for firing.

With his opponent presenting a fine human shield, Wylan directs his full attention to his now-standing adversary. He twirls his chain at the man's face using his 10' range to his advantage.

OOC- Regular attack at +9 but the chain gives me a better range than his blades. If he closes with me to use his swords, I'll definitely take the attack of opportunity on him as well...

The guardsman who had been taking the beating feints to the left and moves in on the right to engage Wylan with his swords. The feint was effective as Wylan missed the guardsman. However, the big burly man whipped the chain back across catching the man in the side. Both participants and the spectators hear the snapping of bone and the tearing of flesh as the chain bites into the guardsman.

The guardsman is in serious pain but manages to lash out with his sword. The sword slices through Wylan’s armor and cuts into his thigh. The huge man feels an extra bite of pain as the sword had been treated with some substance. The archer moves to the left looking for an opportunity to take a clear shot at Wylan.

Wylan grimaces with the agony of the blow; these bastards were clearly prepped for him. The large man takes a step backwards, using the length of the chain to keep his enemy's swords from reaching him. Knowing that a disarm attempt would still levae his enemy one weapon still, he contents himself with simply trying to take him out for good this time.

OOC- Starting with the 5-foot step backwards. Attacking as before with the 10' range and hopefully an attack of opportunity if he closes. If the shooter is moving to HIS left, I'll use my movement to circle to MY left as well, trying to keep the other guy between us.

The guardsman doesn’t give Wylan the chance to open the distance between them again. Despite the pain, the guardsman moves forward when Wylan moves backward. Wylan lashes out with the chain and once again hits the guardsman. Sweat beads on the man’s forehead and runs down his face. Surely the guardsman can not take much more punishment.

Still the man lashes out. The sword slashes across opening a small slice in the side of the armor. Wylan still feels combat ready, but it is becoming clear he can not continue to take punishment and hope to win the encounter.

Meanwhile the guardsman with the hand bow doesn’t have a clear shot, but that doesn’t prevent him from pulling the trigger. The shot goes just left of the other guardsman and sails over Wylans shoulder by a few inches.

Isi was beginning to get worried. It was unnerving to see a guy as big as Wylan struggle like that. She could see the guards weren't doing too well either, but there were two of them and only one of him.
Butterflies were in her stomach as she began to wonder what the guards had lined up for her.
She hoped against hope that he would make it, knowing that he wouldn't give up and hoping that it would pay off.

Things were getting bad, Wylan realized. Still if this were a test, surely they wouldn't allow him to die from this encounter...surely? The big man, lets loose a bellow, swinging again with full strength, hoping to take at least one of his enemies down with him. He continues to keep his adversary between himself and the shooter a best he can.

Wylan lashes out with his spiked chain pouring all of his strength into the blow. The chain catches the guardsman square, dropping him to the floor immediately. The bear of a man draws back the chain and swings wildly at the second guardsman who had dropped his hand bow and charged forward. Somehow the guardsman dodges the lash of the chain. However in dodging the chain, he misses his opportunity to tackle Wylan and runs past him. Wylan spins around to see the man five feet in front of him with his sword drawn.

Wylan wants to let go on all his rage and fury that this 'training' has brought on him. Instead, he gains temporary control over his emotions. There's no reason to bloody this guy if he doesn't need to. Twirling the chain cautiously, Wylan puts another five feet between himself and the last opponent and lets fly with one more swing...at his foe's sword.

OOC- Using Improved Disarm feat on this guy. +15 to the "touch" attack; no counter-attempts allowed with the feat.

Wylan effortlessly wielded the spiked chain despite the weariness and pain that was beginning to creep into his bones. After a quick twirl, the chain snaked out and neatly wrapped around the long sword the guardsman was wielding. With but a flick of his wrist, Wylan sent the sword clattering away from the guardsman.

The guardsman didn’t miss a beat and charged in the few short feet between himself and Wylan. Lowering his shoulder the guardsman plowed into the big man and bore him to the ground. Fortunately for Wylan, he was wearing the helm, which banged hard into the warehouse floor. When his ears stopped ringing two seconds later, Wylan hears the guardsman demand,
“Give or perish!”

A quick glance down and Wylan sees a dagger at the seam in the helmet that helps to protect his throat.
